Department profile

The main task of universities in fulfilling their mission is not only to provide higher education in accordance with the needs of society, but also creative scientific research.

The newly established Institute of Criminology and Criminalistics Research Center at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana (hereinafter referred to as "ÚKaKVC") will allow students to learn more precisely about scientific methods of basic and applied research. By cooperating with entities involved in crime control, we want to create conditions for doctoral students in particular to gain practical experience with research work, participation in projects related to applied practice. Through such activities, we want to educate young criminologists with the potential to develop research activities with foreign universities. In the first years of building the ÚKaKVC, we will focus our research on the analysis of selected criminal law institutes and the development of the situation in the field of crime. The aim is to offer outputs and proposals for specific short-term and conceptual measures to control crime, as well as to review existing ones and offer the implementation of new procedures and tools so that crime prevention is based on evidence and the solution to the root causes of crime is made more effective. At the same time, we will also focus on exploring new possibilities for criminology in detecting crimes and their perpetrators in the context of the development of science and technology. An integral part of the activities of the ÚKaKVC will also be educational and training activities in the field of criminology and criminalistics.
