Department of Penal Law, Criminology, Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences

Within the educational process the Department of Criminal Law, Criminology, Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences (DCLCCFS) provides teaching of mandatory, compulsory-optional and optional subjects within the undergraduate and graduate levels of study for full-time and external students. The educational process focuses on the understanding, and subsequent development of knowledge reflecting the requirements of practical application, thereby contributing to the increase of graduates´ success on the labour market. The department honours the possibility to cooperate with recognized experts of the academic community as well as of the external environment.

As part of the teaching process the Department of Criminal Law, Criminology, Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences provides teaching of the following courses: Substantive Criminal Law, Criminal Procedural Law, Criminal Law, Criminalistics, Criminology, Penology, Forensic Psychology, Forensic Psychiatry, Forensic Medicine and Current Issues of Criminal Law. The compulsory optional course named Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters, the teaching of which is in the English language, is also part of the teaching process.

Within its research activities the Department of Criminal Law, Criminology, Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences focuses on the development of mutual scientific cooperation with domestic as well as foreign faculties. Members of the department have previously participated in the project "Integration and Unification of EU Law in the Field of Criminal Law", the goal of which was to analyse the Criminal Law of the Slovak Republic in terms of its ability to adopt and accept elements of European legal culture in the field of criminal law, to carry out research focused on legal professions in the field of criminal law, especially with respect to its relation to awareness about said subjects on the influence and competence of legislative instruments of EU bodies and institutions towards Slovak criminal law, to analyse the actual impact of the influence of the primary and secondary EU laws on the Criminal Law of the Slovak Republic and to evaluate the level of compatibility of recodifying criminal codes in line with EU law and to assess the perspectives of said level with regard to the next potential development in the field of EU law unification.

Individual members of the Department of Criminal Law, Criminology, Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences concurrently form an integral part of working teams of several scientific projects at home and abroad.
